Needle/Wire Localizations

Needle/Wire Localizations

Before a surgical breast biopsy, a Diversified Radiologist will insert a wire into the breast area in question, the abnormality. A wire localization helps ensure that the abnormal lesion is completely removed during surgery. Mammogram films are used to identify the area to be treated, a procedure that is done under a local anesthetic as outpatient therapy. The wire is removed at the conclusion of the treatment.
